Week 1- May 26, 2015

(AMP) 1 I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever [with grateful, affectionate praise]. 2 Every day [with its new reasons] will I bless You [affectionately and gratefully praise You]; yes, I will praise Your name forever and ever.

EXTOL: (verb) Praise enthusiastically.

THINK:
How can I “enthusiastically” extol God?
"Every day will I bless You” What are your NEW reasons for blessing the Lord today?
Make a list or add to your gratitude journal every day this week.
I WILL. These two words are used four times in this passage. Do you recognize praise as being a function of your “will”? What if any are areas in your life that you are saying, “I won’t” to God? Think about adjustments you need to make.

  1. This might be obvious but in this case, blessing His name is just giving Him praises and gratitude, right?
I love that the Summer Song group is starting out with the reminder to praise Him EVERY DAY! If our days begin with a praise instead of a grumble, they'll go so much better (I know from personal experience)!
I absolutely believe that praise is a function of our will. It has been referred to as a "sacrifice" which means no matter what is going on, we CHOOSE to give Him praise and thanks.

  2. I was captured by the phrase “I will”. It appears (ESV) four times in four different verses. When David declares that he will “extol” his God and King, he is telling the world that he intends to “praise enthusiastically”. A review of 2 Samuel 6 informs us that his worship does tend to be “off the charts” in the passion department.

In the second “I will” (verse 2) David declares, “I will bless You…” The word translated as “bless” signifies kneeling down, i.e. bending of the knee. One of the primary pictures behind this is kneeling as a sign of submission.

My life is full of “I wills” but as I meditated on this verse God began to shine a light on some “I won’ts” and I have had to stop and “bend the knee” in these areas.
